Busy mum
For 16 years my first and last thought of the day was my children or my husband. My job was to look after them. It felt like I was on call 24/7, and the pay was pretty shocking too. However, I would not change a single second of it, I loved it, and I feel exceptionally privileged to have been able to do it.
It taught me that I can be my own boss, I can juggle a number of different projects at once and still get child no.2 to dancing and the other to karate at the same time – my time management is pretty damn good and organisation is key.
Anyone who thinks that having kids and being a stay-at-home mum is equivalent of being a lady of leisure is sadly mistaken.
But you still get the looks, the odd comment and the assumption that “Michelle will do it, she’s not working!”, er hello? I didn’t get lunchbreaks, I didn’t drink a hot cup of tea until my youngest was 3 and my most intellectual conversation was discussing the merits of Peppa Pig over Ben & Holly!
How I presented myself was really important to me, looking good meant I felt good
Look good, feel good
But the good news is that I came out the other side, I took back control and gave myself and how I looked more kudos. How I presented myself was really important to me, looking good meant I felt good. It gave me a boost to feel that I’d been noticed and not because they’d spotted a stain down my top.
So, not only is this time for me, it’s for me to help others get that power back. You might be a mum like me or you might need a boost for many other reasons, sometimes we all need a little bit of help, we deserve that.
