How to sparkle at Christmas without the glitter

Multicoloured sequins

Don't want to sparkle at Christmas?

The shops are an array of sparkle, glitz and shine at this time of year but what if you don’t want to sparkle like a Christmas tree? Maybe you would prefer a more subtle approach to festive dressing, or a more environmentally friendly approach to fashion as sequins, unfortunately, are not great for the environment. So unless you intend on wearing your sparkle all year round, or at least bring it out year on year, you should probably think about an alternative.

It’s all about the fabric. As well as sparkle I like to think about luxurious softs and rich textures. Fabrics such as velvet, cashmere, faux fur, satin, silk, tulle and leather can look gorgeous at this time of year.

Our immediate thought as to what to wear for the obligatory Christmas party is a dress. But what if you’re not a dress person? Absolutely fine. How about a beautiful velvet trouser suit, a jumpsuit or wide legged trousers and a silky blouse?

You can add a bit of sparkle with jewellery, a handbag, shoes or even a hair grip. Add a slick red lipstick and you’re ready to go!
